Artist: Names Martian & David Bliss
Album: PRETTY GIRLS & EXPENSIVE DREAMS
Genre: HipHop/Rap
Release: 31 March 2018
Since Names Martian appeared on the scene his work ethic has been impeccable. The brother can't stop dropping new music. I back up my statement with a review of his 12 track body of work along side David Bliss. When two solo artists create a project together, there is alot that goes into it. Producers are key to making a fire hip hop project. One of the best suprises on the project is Gun House, he produced fan favourite 'PAY NO MIND'. J-Hun was also excellent on the tape. But the only factor that matters is chemistry. The tape felt more like David Bliss featuring Names Martian. Bliss seemed to own Martian on every song. Songs like 'PG&ED' & 'HOW YOU DO THAT' make my point. Even on 'LOUD' produced by Peruvian Mafia which is arguably Martians best verse on the project, Bliss makes it sound effortless while Martian seems to force it. The tape boasts of David Bliss ability on the mic, the young MC emboddied genres like rnb, afro pop & hip hop harmoniously. How he controls tempo and melody as you listen through out the album is very refreshing. Without Bliss, Martian redeems himself on 'PEACHES & CREAM', his solo offering on the album. David's solo take on the album 'BAD NEIGHBOUR' is one of the more alternative rap songs you wouldn't expect really leaving the new wave impression. Overall the album is a good listen unlike anything on the market right now. It's important for artists to work together and grow off each other in order to get better. Hopefully next time the duo release work together the calibre can be complementary.
Must Listen: HOW YOU DO THAT, TIMELESS, LOUD.
